Learning to Love Myself (Vol. 1)

I think a lot of people tend to think of themselves in a negative light.  They focus on their faults, their failings, and what they don't like about themselves.  I know that I do this far too often.  I find it too easy to make self-deprecatory statements and play them off like jokes.

I think we all need to be a little more charitable to ourselves.  We need to recognize the lovely, funny, beautiful, and gifted parts of ourselves.  We need to remember that we are lovable because God made us and loves us.

Now, keep in mind, I'm not advocating self-centeredness or narcissism.  Just a healthy acknowledgment of the gifts and blessings God has actually given to each of us (which, by the by, is the part of the definition of humility).

So, that's what I'm going to do.

7 in 7 - Day 7: I Made It

7 posts in 7 days really wore me out!
Well, I did it!  I successfully wrote 7 posts in 7 days, in response to the Jen Fulwiler's blogging challenge over on Conversion Diary.  And boy, am I pooped!  It was harder than I thought it would be.  Not so much because I couldn't think of things to say, because trust me, I've got plenty of opinions on plenty of subjects that I don't mind sharing with anybody dumb interested enough to listen.  No, the tough thing was just finding the time every day.  I work full time, and I have a nastily long commute to and from work.  So by the time I get home, I'm pretty tired and just want to relax, not spend even more time in front of the computer trying to compose a new blog post.  At least, not every single day.

7 in 7 - Day 6: What To Do, What To Do

Well, I've got a long and busy day today, so I don't have time for a longer, more coherent post.  So here are my thoughts on things I want to do (or should be doing).

  • Read Scripture more.  I need to develop a daily Scripture reading habit, because how can I hear what God wants to say to me if I don't bother listening to his Word.
  • Start working away at the rather large backlog of books in my personal library.  You remember this picture:
Well, at least two full shelves of books need to be read.  Cripes, that's going to take me a while!!

7 in 7 - Day 5: 7 Quick Takes - Vol. 4

I've been participating in Jen's 7-Posts-in-7-Days blogging challenge.  I've discovered a couple of things.
     1.  Blogging every day is HARD.  I guess my writing muscles are weak and flabby or something, because  it is a real challenge for me to come up with the words to say every day.  Especially when I'm drained after a day of work and an hour+ commute home.
     2.  I like writing, and I think I'll keep it up.

My husband and I went on vacation with my parents at the beginning of July for a whole week.  We drove a loop through Memphis, Chattanooga, Charleston, Birmingham, and back to Texas.  We rode a train, walked through downtown historic Charleston, visited a monastery and a plantation, and went fishing in the Atlantic.  It was a lot of fun!  And it rained on us for two days straight!  And I got a cold that developed into bronchitis half-way through the trip, and which I'm still suffering from now!  FUN!!!

7 in 7 - Day 4: Au Naturale

Sex au naturale, that is.  As in, we use no contraception of any kind, and we haven't since sometime within the first year of our marriage.

Why am I telling you this?  Well, because it is National Natural Family Planning (NFP) Awareness Week this week, and I want to tell you a little bit about it from my experience and encourage you to ditch the birth control, and use NFP to space pregnancies instead.

What is Natural Family Planning?  It is a scientific process of determining when during her cycle a woman is fertile and when she is infertile, and using that information to determine when to have or not have intercourse in order to achieve or avoid a pregnancy.

7 in 7 - Day 3: Restless

I feel restless, and I'm having a hard time pinning down what the restlessness is due to.  All I know is that something is missing.  Or maybe, several somethings are missing; I'm not sure.

Something is missing, or I'm not doing something I should be doing.  I can think of lots of things that fit this bill:

7 in 7 - Day 2: A Recipe and A Debate

So, on Facebook today I asked for some suggestions on topics to blog about this week.  I got some good ideas, and since I'm writing this Monday night, and I'm tired and want to go to bed, I'm going to choose the easy suggestions for Tuesday's post.

At my buddy Amy's suggestion:

7 in 7 - Day 1: Finding My Voice

I love to read.  Oh man, do I ever love to read!  Books, articles, blogs: whatever I can get my hands on.  And after a lifetime of being a reading nut, I can definitely say that one of the most important components of a good read (for me, at least) is the voice of author.

7 Posts in 7 Days: I Must Be A Little Insane

Jen Fulwiler over at Conversion Diary has issued an epic blogging challenge to any interested bloggers, and I'm just nutty enough to take her up on it.

The challenge:  to write 7 blog posts in 7 days, starting Monday, July 22 (tomorrow!!!) and ending Sunday, July 28.
This is me by the end of this week.

7 Quick Takes - Vol. 3

Kaboom Town in Addison, TX. Not only is the fireworks show fantastic, but the folks there know how to get the party STARTED, because this Independence Day event is always on July 3RD. That's 2 DAYS OF FIREWORKS IN A ROW, y'all!!

This cake is full of awesomeness. I want to make it, and then I want to eat it. Of course, my baking creativity doesn't really get much better than box cake mix, so an attempt to make it would likely be a big fail. But I would still eat it. Yeah, I think I've got that one covered.
